To facilitate a setting change of a distance to an object member whose movement may be stopped.
The rotary tool includes: a range sensor 3 which measures the distance to an object member; a control means 8 which stops a motor 2 during operation based on the result of comparison between distance information from the range sensor and a predetermined value; a storage means 80 which stores the predetermined value; and a rewriting means which rewrites the predetermined value stored in the storage means with a current output value of the range sensor. The control means turns off the operation for stopping the motor based on comparison between the distance information and the predetermined value when the forward/reverse switchable motor being power is operated reversely.
