To prevent unnatural fluctuation of engine speed during rotation synchronization due to unnatural fluctuation of a target gear position signal.
A corrected value STo is maintained at a solid line arrow even if stroke position ST drops from 1 to 0.5 in a first half of stroke operation of the solid line arrow during shift of a speed change lever from second speed to third speed as indicated by an arrow. Since the speed change lever is maintained in a firstto second row during the shift, select position correction value SEo is 0. Target gear position signal tG which is sum of these values is kept at 1 corresponding to the second speed. Although SE and SEo rise to 2 as shown by alternate long and short dash line in select operation indicated by alternate long and short dash line arrow, STo is dropped to 0 as indicated by alternate long and short dash line arrow. tG is 2 as indicated. STo is maintained at 0 as indicated by dashed line arrow in a second half of stroke operation indicated by the dashed line arrow. SEo is 2 during that period. Consequently, tG is maintained at 2 corresponding to third speed.
