PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a vulcanizable rubber composition useful in the production of tire covers and excellent in hysteresis properties in the state of a vulcanizate by mixing a functionalized diene polymer having a specified composition with silica being a reinforcing filler.
SOLUTION: This composition is prepared by mixing a functionalized diene polymer (e.g. butadiene/styrene copolymer) terminated with a silanol functional group or a polysiloxane block terminated with a silanol functional group with silica being a reinforcing filler. It many further contain a polybutadiene, a butadiene/isoprene copolymer, a natural rubber or the like. The filler may further contain a small amount of carbon black. The silica used is desirably a highly dispersible precipitated silica having a CTAB adsorption surface area of 450m2/g or below and a BET surface area of 450m2/g or below. This composition can give tires having low rolling resistance.
