Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rubber compsn. which exhibits a great decrease in viscosity in processing and hence has a good processibility by compounding a diene rubber with precipitated silica, carbon black, and a specific nonarom. viscosity- reducing substance such as pentanediol.
SOLUTION: This rubber compsn, is based on a diene polymer rubber and is prepd. by compounding 100 pts.wt. rubber with 5-100 pts.wt. particulate silica, 0-80 pts.wt. carbon black, 0.2-10 pts.wt. silane coupling agent if necessary, and 0.5-20 pts.wt. nonarom. viscosity-reducing substance which is a 1.2- or 1,3-diol, is a compd. comprising C, H, and O atoms, and has a 2C or higher carbon chain of which carbon atoms and carbon atoms adjacent thereto are not substd. by oxygen atoms. The substance is exemplified by 1,2-pentanediol and 2-butyl-2- ethyl-1,3-propanediol, is nontoxic, has a high capability of reducing the viscosity of a rubber compsn., and is suitable for the use in a rubber compsn. for a tire tread.
