Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a rubber foam which, when fitted to a structure, can follow the irregularities on the surface, can closely adhere thereto and can exhibit excellent water stop performances by continuously extruding an expandable vulcanizable composition essentially consisting of a specified rubber component and a specified softener and expanding and vulcanizing the extrudate.
SOLUTION: An expandable vutcanizable composition obtained by kneading a composition essentially consisting of 100 pts.wt. copolymer comprising ethylene, an α-olefin and a nonconjugated-diene-bond-containing (a)cyclic polyene or rubber component containing at least 30 pts.wt. this copolymer and 50-100 pts.wt. water- repellent and pressure-sensitive adhesive resin softener (e.g. plybutene) and additives such as a filler, a blowing agent, a vulcanizing agent and a vulcanizing aid and having a Mooney viscosity (ML1+4(100°C)) of 10-30 is continuously extruded, and the extrudate is expanded and vulcanized at an expansion ratio of 5-30 so as to give a foam having a cell diameter corresponding to 15 cells per inch, a 50% compressive stress of 5-200gf/cm2 and an air permeability of 100-2,000cc/min.
