Abstract:
PURPOSE: To lessen the generation of an unequal treatment by forming the film of the uppermost layer larger than the film region of the lower layer thereof.
CONSTITUTION: An oriented film 24 consisting of a polyimide resin is formed on a top coating film 23 and this oriented film 24 is formed larger than the top coating film 23 region formed on the lower layer. The oriented film is formed in a region exclusive of the regions connected with ICs for driving of transparent electrodes 22, etc., and the surface thereof is subjected to an orientation treatment by a rubbing treatment. The level differences generated by the top coating film 23 are eliminated and the level difference is only one step by the oriented film 24 if the oriented film 24 is formed in such a manner. The parts where the aligning directions of the fine hairs of a roller surface are irregular are decreased to about half as compared with heretofore at the time of the rubbing treatment and the unequal treatment decreases. The unequal orientation of liquid crystal molecules is, thereupon, lessened and the uniformity of the display is improved.
