Abstract:

PURPOSE: To improve the rust preventive effect on the surface films of the ballast tank of a ship.
CONSTITUTION: An additive charging pipe 4 of an additive injecting device 2 is connected to the inlet side of a ballast pump 7 existing in the middle of a pipe 9 connecting a sea water intake port 8 and ballast pump 7 of the ship. An additive 1 is prepd. by mixing sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide with sodium carbonate or sodium bicarbonate or mixing thiourea and gelatin with the mixture composed thereof. The sea water 10 mixed with the additive 1 is injected into the ballast tank 6 by the ballast pump 7. An anode 11 is arranged in the sea water 10 in the ballast tank and a cathode 12 is disposed in the ballast tank 16. A current is passed between the two electrodes mentioned above from a power source supply device 13 to electrolyze the sea water 0, by which the rust preventive film is formed within the ballast tank 6.
