NEW MATERIAL: A compd. containing a DNA or RNA sequence bonded to a ruthenium composite represented by formula I [wherein L1 and L2 are each a charge transfer unit; L3 is a group A-X (wherein A is a group represented by formula II, SO or COO and X is an aldehyde, carboxy, hydroxy, amino, thiocyanate, halogen, a phosphite, etc.] by a covalent bond through a spacer.
USE: A fluoresent reagent for detecting a complementary DNA or RNA sequence.
PROCESS: For example, an amino group of 5'-amino-'-desoxythymidine is protected to be treated with bis-(diisopropylamino)-cyanoethoxyphosphine to bond DNA and the amino protective group is removed to obtain 5'-amino-DNA which is, in turn, reacted with a succinamide-esterified ruthernium composite to obtain the ruthenium composite represented by formula I having a DNA sequence bonded thereto through a spacer.
