PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a safety apparatus for an elevator which enables both an operation instructor and a worker driving manually to confirm by both a visual sense and a sense of hearing at inspection work.SOLUTION: A safety apparatus for an elevator includes: a car 2 lifting and lowering inside a hoistway 1; a car top operation board 10 which is provided on the car and has a lifting direction drive button 10a that is discriminated and indicated in green and is operated by a car top worker at inspection work and a lowering direction drive button 10b that is discriminated and indicated in red; at least one optical fiber 12 which is vertically suspended across the entire length of the hoistway not to disturb the lifting and lowering of the car and is arranged in such a manner that a lower end part is positioned in a hoistway pit; and a maintenance inspection irradiating device 13 which is provided in the hoistway pit and is operated by an inside-pit worker who is an instructor of the inspection work at the inspection work for emitting light in green that is the same color as the lifting direction drive button or light in red that is the same color as the lowering direction drive button from a lower end part of the optical fiber toward an upper end part in a switchable manner.
