To provide a safety device detecting adhesion of tar to a wick of an oil burner to cope therewith before the adhesion of tar becomes worse.

In the safety device for the oil burner, a burner 5 of the oil burner is arranged on a wick housing tube 4 composed of a wick inner tube 2 erected from a bottom plate of an oil tank 1, and a wick outer tube 3 attached to a top face plate of the oil tank 1, the wick 6 is attached to vertically move to a gap of the wick housing tube 4, and a wick vertically moving device 7 is provided for vertically moving the wick 6. A temperature detecting means 8 is provided for detecting a temperature of a top part of the wick inner tube 2 arranged in an internal space A of the wick inner tube 2, an operation switch 9 opened and closed by wick vertical operation of the wick vertically moving device 7 is provided for outputting operation and stoppage of the oil burner, and a timer means 10 is provided for starting counting on the basis of an operation stoppage signal of the operation switch 9 during quenching operation. The temperature of the top part of the wick inner tube 2 is detected by the temperature detecting means 8 after passage of a predetermined time from the quenching operation, and when the detected temperature of the temperature detecting means 8 is a predetermined temperature or more, an alarm means 11 is operated to notify a user of malfunction.
