Abstract:
PURPOSE: To avoid damage caused when incision is carried out by providing a tubular cannula, a slender trocar, a latch means, and an unlocking means. CONSTITUTION: A main body-cannula subassembly 16 is assembled by combining with a trocar subassembly 18 so that a trocar 24 is coaxially enclosed inside a cannula 14. The trocar 24 is first held by an inner latch mechanism located in a main housing. However, the trocar 24 is connected to the latch mechanism via a lost-motion coupling, and the lost-motion coupling forces the latch mechanism backward into the housing 38 and a plunger head 40, to a middle retracted position against the force of a pressure spring 57. Then the end of the trocar 24 causes an unlocking mechanism to release the latch mechanism and is retracted into a stationary position by a retractor spring 56 while being surrounded by the distal end of the cannula.
