Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new compound having a low melting point sufficient to practical use, liquid at a usual temperature, stable even in chemically.electrochemically with a slight corrosion.
SOLUTION: This compound is expressed by the formula (R1 and R3 are each a 1-8C alkyl; R2, R4 and R5 are each H or a 1-3C alkyl), e.g. 1-ethyl-3- methyl-imidazolium bis(pentafluoroethanesulfonyl)amide. The compound of the formula is obtained by subjecting a substituted imidazolium halide obtained by refluxing an R1,R2,R4,R5-substituted imidazole and an alkyl halide (R3X) with (C2F5SO2)2NLi to ion exchange in an aqueous solution. The substituted imidazolium halide can be obtained by, e.g. dissolving 1-methylimidazole to acetonitrile, adding ethyl bromide and refluxing and distilling out excess ethyl bromide and acetonitrile under a reduced pressure after the reaction.
