NEW MATERIAL: A salt of a herbicidal acid selected from the group consisting of phosphinic acids of formula I (wherein Y1 is H; Y2 is amino, or Y1 and Y2 may be combined with each other to form O; and W is hydroxyl or a mono- or di-peptide group derived from a natural amino acid) and phosphenylcarboxylic acids of formula II, which salt contains as the basic component a prim. aliphatic amine or an aliphatic amide (a) of e.g. formula III (wherein R1 is a 6-22C saturated mono- or polyunsaturated aliphatic group or the like; and X is H or the like), a sec. or tert. amine (b) of e.g. formula IV, a polyamine (c) of e.g. formula V (wherein R2 is a 1-21C saturated mono- or poly-unsaturated aliphatic group; A is -CO- or the like; m is 0, 2, 6 or 14; n=m+2; and r is 2 or 3) or the like.
USE: A herbicide having herbicidal action and being capable of being used to selectively control weed in the grassy cereals.
PREPARATION: A herbicidal acid as an acid component is reacted with a basic component in an aqueous medium to obtain a novel herbicidal salt.
