Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sampling light generating device capable of easily observing an optical pulse waveform by obtaining sampling light without converting an optical pulse from a light source synchronizing with a signal light to be measured into an electric signal and to provide an optical sampling device.
SOLUTION: The sampling light generating device is provided with an input section of a laser light pulse sequence, an optical modulator generating a laser pulse sequence whose intensity is changed in time by modulating the intensity of the laser light pulse sequence by a previously determined signal, a light transmission medium generating an optical soliton by receiving and propagating the modulated laser light pulse sequence and having propagation speed characteristics depending on the intensity of the soliton, a nonlinear optical medium receiving outputted light from the light transmission medium as the sampling light together with a light signal to be observed and outputting mixed light formed by a nonlinear optical effect, a wave filter filtering the mixed light and a display receiving and displaying the filtered wave by synchronizing the filtered wave with the signal used for the intensity modulation.
