Abstract:
PURPOSE:To make it possible to provide excellent detecting accuracy even if a plurality of protecting covers are linked by sliding a slider on which a detecting element is provided through sliding pieces with the graduation forming surface of a main scale as a travel-reference surface. CONSTITUTION:A detecting element 5 is provided in a slider 3. The element 5 faces the graduation forming surface of a main scale 13. Three sliding pieces 7 are provided so as to provide the separation of a specified distance. The slider 3 is slid through the sliding pieces. The graduation for detecting the moving amount of a substance (machine tool and the like) which is relatively moved in the longitudinal direction of the scale 13 is formed in a magnetic type, optical type, a capacitance type or the like. The graduation is read with the element 5. When the scale 13 becomes long, a plurality of protecting covers 15 are linked. Elastic bodies are compressed into the gaps between the linking parts. Since the slider 3 is slid through the sliding pieces 7 with the scale 13 as a travel-reference surface, the attitude of the element 5 is maintained adequately all the time, and the detecting accuracy is maintained excellently.
