PURPOSE: To reduce a copying machine in size, by arranging a front driver for moving an original platen by a prescribed distance, and a rear driver for returning in the range of movement of the platen.

CONSTITUTION: Two pulleys 4, 5 are arranged along the movement direction of an original platen 3, a cable delivered from the pulley 4 fixed to the front side is connected with the rear end of the platen 3, and a cable delivered from the pulley 5 of the rear side is connected with the front end of the platen 3, and the 2 cable pulleys are crossed. The pulleys 4, 5 are connected with a power source, and rotation direction can be changed over. The platen 3 is moved from the initial position D not shown to the position E not shown by driving the pulley 4, and it can be returned to the initial position by driving the pulley 5. Since the pulleys 4, 5 are arranged in the range of movement of the platen 3, the device is reduced in size.
