Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a scanning optical device in which a clear and bright image is obtained by preventing the deterioration of an image caused by the stray light of unwanted diffracted light beams by setting the image formation state of the stray light of the unwanted diffracted light beams caused by a diffraction surface an out-of- focus state on a surface to be scanned and an image forming apparatus using it.
SOLUTION: When the surface to be scanned is scanned with a luminous flux by deflecting at least one luminous flux emitted from a light source means by a deflecting means and performing image formation of the luminous flux deflected by the deflecting means on the surface to be scanned by an imaging means having a diffraction surface at least at one surface, to diffracted light beam of an order used for forming a spot on the surface to be scanned among diffracted light beams diffracted by the diffraction surface on the surface to be scanned, the spread of the stray light of the unwanted diffracted light beams which is surface-reflected on the refractive surface of the imaging means and is made incident on the surface to be scanned among the unwanted diffracted light beams of other orders is made larger in a subscanning direction than in a main scanning direction.
