PURPOSE: To provide a screen plate safety device which is highly safe so that a finger is prevented from being harmed even though the finger is erroneously caught between a screen plate and a top board during setting of the top board.

CONSTITUTION: In a meeting table, a top board 2 is rotatably attached to a leg column 1 so as to be positionally changeable between a use position and a storage position, and a screen plate 3 covers the upper end part of the leg column 1, abutting at its upper edge abutting against the lower surface of the top board 2 so as to shield the front of the upper end part of the leg column 1. A press spring 13 supports the screen plate 3 to the leg column 1 so that the screen plate 3 is movable up and down, and urges the screen plate 3 upward. Upon setting of the top board, if a finger is erroneously caught between the top board 2 and the screen board 3, the screen plate 3 is lowered by the finger 29, overcoming the resilient force of the spring 13.
