Abstract:
The present invention has the object to provide an agent for controlling the production of osteoprotegerin (OPG) and a method for screening substances capable of controlling the production of OPG, and it solves the object by providing the agent for controlling the production of OPG, which comprises a saccharide as an effective ingredient; and a method for screening a substance capable of controlling the production of OPG, which comprises the steps of culturing an established cell line capable of producing OPG in a nutrient culture medium; adding a test sample to the cell culture; culturing the cells in the presence of the test sample to produce OPG; assaying the production level of OPG in the culture supernatant; and judging the test sample to be a positive substance that can control the production of OPG when the production level of OPG for the test sample is higher or lower than that for a control system.
