PURPOSE: To simplify and miniaturize constitution by recording a searching signal on a video track so as to reproduce and searching the track.

CONSTITUTION: When a head switching signal is inputted from a terminal 1, a 1/N timing generator circuit 4 delays the signal. A counter 9 is started by an FF8 set by a search setting switch 6, keep outputting an L signal until it is reset by an edge detector 5. The L signal and the output of the detector 5 are impressed on a switch circuit 11 through an OR circuit 8. A four frequency ATF signal for automatically tracking from an ATF generator 3 is not recorded until delayed outputs both from a searching part and the generator 4 are generated after the switch 11 is changed over by the L signal from the counter 9. An ATF signal unrecorded part which is recorded on the video track searches the part concerned, whereby the constitution can be simplified because a fixed head and PCM processing are unnecessary, and a small-sized searching device can be obtained.
