A secondary battery 100 of the present invention comprises: a positive electrode 2; a negative electrode 1; a porous insulator 3 disposed between the positive electrode and the negative electrode; and a nonaqueous electrolyte. The positive electrode comprises: a positive electrode collector; and a positive electrode layer containing a positive electrode active material and being supported on the surface of the positive electrode collector, the positive electrode layer containing carboxymethyl cellulose or a modified product thereof. The negative electrode comprises: a negative electrode collector; and a negative electrode layer containing a negative electrode active material and being supported on the surface of the negative electrode collector, the negative electrode layer at least comprising a first layer laid on the surface of the negative electrode layer and a second layer laid between the first layer and the negative electrode collector. The first layer mainly contains a lithium titanium composite oxide as the negative electrode active material.
