Title:
SELF-EMULSIFIABLE EPOXY RESIN AND ITS COMPOSITION
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3185051
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an epoxy resin composition which is excellent in emulsion stability and gives a cured film excellent in corrosion resistance and water resistance by reacting a compound having terminal isocyanato groups with an epoxy resin to give a reaction product having an oxazolidone ring in the molecule and a specified epoxy equivalent.
SOLUTION: The compound having terminal isocyanato groups is obtained by reacting a polyalkylene glycol compound with a polyisocyanate compound at an equivalent ratio of isocyanato groups to hydroxyl groups of (1.5 to 3.0):1. The molecular weight of the polyalkylene glycol compound used is 500 to 15,000. The polyisocyanate compound comprises, e.g. 2,4-tolylene diisocyanate. The epoxy resin used has at least two epoxy groups in the molecule and comprises, e.g. bisphenol A epoxy resin. The specified epoxy equivalent mentioned above is 250-10,000 g/eq. The epoxy resin and the compound having terminal isocyanato groups are reacted at an equivalent ratio of epoxy groups to isocyanato groups of (1.5 to 5.0):1 at 110-200°C for 1 to 10 hr.
