Abstract:
PURPOSE: To facilitate large scale processing without the need of wiring change even when an ATM exchange module is extended.
CONSTITUTION: ATM exchanges 50 are configured in multi-stage and the exchange module of an intermediate stage is configured by an STM exchange module 61. A control section 81 sets the relation of connection between incoming lines and outgoing lines in each spatial switch in the STM exchange module 61 depending on numbers of ATM exchange modules 51a-51m, 71a-71m in the incoming and outgoing directions in terms of software. Thus, incoming liens in total mn-lines from the ATM exchange modules 51a-51m are connected to mn-lines of outgoing lines set by the control section and connected to incoming lines of prescribed ATM exchange modules 71a-71m. When the number of ATM exchange modules are increased, the control section revises the connection relation between the incoming lines and outgoing lines in each spatial switch built in the STM exchange module 61 depending on the number of ATM exchange modules in terms of software.
