PURPOSE: To improve the efficiency of a series of operations for catching fibers constituting the selvage part of an inplane-multiaxial thick fabric by a selvage- holding fitment and arranging the fibers on a rail.

CONSTITUTION: This selvage-holding mechanism comprises an almost dumbbell- shaped selvage-holding fitment 1 composed of a pair of spacers 2 for keeping the fiber arrangement of a fabric 8 constant and a rod 3 existing between the spaces 2 for holding the fibers of the selvage of the fabric 8 and a rail 4 composed of a pair of almost L-shaped members 5 and 5 arranged almost parallel to both the selvages of the fabric 8 and capable of successive arrangement of the selvage-holding fitments 1 thereon. This mechanism can improve the efficiency of a series of operations for catching the fibers constituting the selvage part of a fabric 8 subjected to shedding operation during the course of weaving by the selvage-holding fitment 1 and arranging the fibers on the rail 4 in order.
