To provide a casting method, by which casting speed is increased and cracks are not generated at the time of solidification of a central part.
In the semi-continuous casting method for aluminum or copper, molten metal 8 is poured from one end of a mold 1, and a cast ingot 81, which is solidified, is continuously drawn out from the other end of the mold 1. After primary cooling of the molten metal 8 or the cast ingot 81 using the mold 1, secondary cooling is conducted by colliding cooling water with the surface 810 of the cast ingot drawn from a mold 81. In the secondary cooling, film boiling cooling is performed in a designated area in the side of a casting direction from the position where cooling water 7 is collided with the surface 810 of the cast ingot, and further, nucleate boiling cooling is performed in the area that exceeds the designated area. When expressing the diameter of the cast ingot 81 as D, D=140-600 (mm). The designated area where film boiling cooling is to be performed is preferably in a range of 0.2×D+20 to 1.5×D (mm) from the position where the cooling water is collided in the casting direction.
