PURPOSE: To lengthen the length of the obtd. ingot without changing the depth of a pit and the ascending/descending stroke of a bottom mold by pouring molten metal into a mold, ascending a mold supporting body after the bottom mold reaches the descending position and the solidification of the molten metal in the mold completes, and taking out the upper end part of the cast ingot from the mold.
CONSTITUTION: The pouring of the molten metal into each mold 3 from a casting trough 7 is started. The poured molten metal in the mold 3 is cooled from this periphery and solidified from the lower part in the mold 3 to form the cast ingot 1. Successively, the bottom mold 5 is descended by descending a casting table 6, and the ingot 1, in which the solidification at the lower part in the mold 3 completes, is drawn out downward from the inner part of the mold 3 at the constant speed. The pouring of the molten metal is executed so that the upper part of the ingot 1 remains in each mold 3 even after the bottom mold 5 reaches the descending position. Then, after the bottom mold 5 reaches the descending position and the solidification of the molten metal in each mold 3 completes, the upper end part of each cast ingot 1 is remained in each mold 3, and the mold holding body 4 is ascended to take out the upper end part.
