Abstract:

PURPOSE: To prepare a semi-solid medicine capable of dissolving both hydrophilic drug and olephilic drug, by using a gel composition obtained by adding a polyhydric alcohol and an oily component to a sugar fatty acid ester, as a base.

CONSTITUTION: A semi-solid medicine for ointment, eye ointment, poultice, plaster and suppository use, is prepared by using a base comprising a gel composition composed of (A) one or more hydrophilic esters derived from sucrose, lactose, maltose, lactitol, maltitol, starch sugar or reduced starch sugar and a fatty acid (e.g. starch sugar lauric acid ester), (B) a polyhydric alcohol (e.g. glycerine, propylene glycol, etc.) and (C) an oily component (e.g. vaseline). The addition of the oily component enables the inclusion of oleophilic drugs as well as hydrophilic drugs in high efficiency.
