Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a good quality semiconductor array with the controllability of the wavelength of emitted light increased over its wide range and at the same time with use of the easy process in its manufacture with respect to a semiconductor laser of muliple wavelengths in which a plurality of semiconductor laser elements each having a slightly different wavelength of emitted light are integrated.

CONSTITUTION: This semiconductor laser element includes multilayer semiconductor thin films 3, 4, 5, 6 including a semiconductor activated layer on a substrate 1 in which a plurality of different ridges 2 having a difference in the width and in the interval between the adjacent ones are formed, and also the manufacturing method includes the process of forming the width of the ridges 2 or the interval between the adjacent ridges 2 on the substrate 1 and the process of forming semiconductor multilayer films 3, 4, 5, 6 including an activated layer on the substrate 1 of ridges.
