PURPOSE: To enable a semiconductor laser excitation solid-state laser to be enhanced in efficiency and output by a method wherein striped laser rays emitted from a semiconductor laser array are converged through a lens array and beam-formed through an anamorphic prism.
CONSTITUTION: An array semiconductor laser end face excitation solid-state laser is provided with an optical coupler composed of a lens array 2 which is composed of distributed refractive index lenses arranged corresponding to striped laser rays 8 of a semiconductor laser array 1 to converge and collimate the output of the semiconductor laser array 1, an anamorphic prism 3 which beam-forms the collimated striped laser rays, and a second lens 4 which is made to serve as a focusing lens that converges the striped laser rays collectively into a point to execute an end face excitation of a solid-state laser element.
