To provide a semitransmission type liquid crystal display having high contrast without generating a blur in transmission display, small angle dependence between a light source and a viewer and excellent display characteristics in reflection display, and excellent display characteristics without the glare when using parallel light such as the sun light as a light source.
In the semitransmission type liquid crystal display, a reflection layer 8 has a projecting and recessed surface shape and a light scattering function and a light scattering layer 5 consisting of transparent particles and a transparent resin and having light scattering properties by the difference between refractive indices thereof is provided only at a reflection part between a rear side substrate 10 and a viewer side substrate 7'.
