Title:
SEPARATION OF ALPHA-CAROTENE FROM MIXED CAROTENES
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH07149714
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a method for separating α-carotene from mixed carotenes by treating the solution of the mixed carotenes by a chromatography method, capable of efficiently separating the α-carotene by using an adsorbing agent high in carotene-loading ability.

CONSTITUTION: The characteristics of a method for separating α-carotene from mixed carotenes by bringing the solution of the mixed carotenes into contact with an adsorbing agent and subsequently bringing the adsorbing agent into contact with a developing solvent are to use magnesium hydroxide or heavy magnesium oxides as the adsorbing agent, also to use mixed solvents comprising a non-polar organic solvent and a small amount of a polar organic solvent as the developing solvent.
