Abstract:
PURPOSE: To separate malonitrile from the mixture obtained by the high-temperature vapor-phase reaction of acetonitrile with cyanogen chloride, in high yield, preventing the deposition of chars and polymers and the explosion hazards, by distilling the mixture in the presence of a polyalkylene glycol.
CONSTITUTION: The product obtained by the high-temperature vapor-phase reaction of acetonitrile with cyanogen chloride is distilled in the presence of 0.01W 1.0pt.wt. (based on 1pts.wt. of the malononitrile) of a polyalkylene glycol preferably having an average molecular weight of 200W6,000.
