PURPOSE: To enable early decision on the identity of A-type hepatitis within a time range of four weeks by calculating the ratio of HA antibody value of serum and antibody value of serum having one gram of M antibody destroyed by 2-mercaptoethanol treatment.
CONSTITUTION: The HA antibody of test serum in the early stage of hepatitis is measured by RIA method. In the meantime, 2-mercaptoethanol is added to the test serum and inclubated. Then the HA antibody of serum having one gram of M antibody destroyed is measured by RIA method. The ratio of these measured values is calculated as M index. In case this M index value is equivalent to almost more than 1.5, the case is diagnosed as A-type acute hepatitis. While if the said value is equivalent to less than 1.5, the case is diagnosed as hepatitis other than the A-type. M-index is obtained as 1g M treated serum cpm/untreated serum cpm (cpm indicates the radioactivity in free second antibody by the competitive immunity radiactivity counting method).
