Title:
SERRATION MACHINING METHOD FOR FRP PROPELLER SHAFT JOINT
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP2003211323
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

To provide a serration machining method for an FRP propeller shaft joint, capable of easily machining a serration having a tip end tooth thickness of not more than 0.1 mm at stable quality.

When a serration extending in an axial direction is machined on an outer peripheral surface of a joining portion of a metallic joint pressed in and joined with an end portion of the FRP pipe, serration teeth 14a are machined by using a topping gear hob and in a state positive profile shift is added on hob teeth 20. The amount of profile shift is set to dispose a reference pitch line in the outside of the tooth depth of a workpiece. The mount of profile shift is preferably 1.0 to 2.0 mm outward from a outer diameter of the serration. If the outer diameter of the serration is made to be 70 to 75 mm, the tooth depth is made to be not more than 1.0 mm, the number of teeth is made to be 144±1, and the amount of profile shift is made to be the above mentioned value, the serration having the tip end tooth thickness T of 20 to 70 μm can be easily machined.
