The user operates a video recording device 2 in order to edit programs broadcast a wired channel, a ground wave or a satellite wave to reserve video recording. When the user makes video recording reservation, the video recording reservation is transmitted via a network to a service providing company 7. When a broadcast station broadcasts programs whose video recording is reserved, the video recording device 2 and the service providing company 7 record the programs. Then the service providing company 7 generates so-called meta data representing in detail program contents when a characteristic scene or a scene change part appears. The service providing company 7 distributes the generated meta data to membership video recording devices 2 via a network.
