To make keepable the initial locus of a ball practically constant for the whole set by adjusting the weight of the upper portion of a peripheral weight, the mass element of a cavity back and the weight of a sole so that the center of gravity is raised in short irons than in long irons.
A golf club head 10 includes a heel, a toe, a front face 16 and a back face on the opposite side to the front face 16. A peripheral weight having an upper portion 30 and a lower portion 32 and specifying a cavity is formed on the back face. In this golf club head 10, the weight of the upper portion 30 of the peripheral weight, an upper cavity weight 34a, a lower cavity weight 34b and the weight of a sole are adjusted so that the center of gravity is raised in short irons than in long irons. The center of gravity may be changed by using a material with a high density at various portions of the club head 10.
