Title:
SETSUDANKOGUOYOBI SONO SEIZOHO
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS5135180
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
Cutting tool uses a tool body with a cutting edge, a coating of ions implanted in, and covering the surface of the cutting edge, and submicroscopic, pulse-hardened martensitic grains in the steel surface of the cutting edge in contact with the coating. The cutting tool is pref. in contact with the coating. The cutting tool is pref. a saw-blade with the coating on both the leading and trailing edges of the teeth, the pref. coating being tungsten- and/or titanium-carbide on top of submicroscopic steel with Vickers Hardness above 1000 HV and a coating hardness above 3000 HV. The pref. prodn. process uses a hardenable steel tool with ion-implantation of another metal on the cutting edge followed by reaction with carbon. For example, a saw-blade can be made with 8-10 times the life of a conventional blade.
