PURPOSE: To provide an inexpensive sewing machine of a type that a thread sweeping member intrudes between a sewing pressing member and a sewing needle to sweep a thread end by a method wherein a sewing machine motor is kept rotating after a needlebar stops at an upper dead point so as to operate the thread sweeping member in a state that a needle thread is cut and that there is some space between the sewing pressing member and the needle.

CONSTITUTION: A sewing pressing member motion changing device and a needle bar motion changing device are connected to a main shaft 110 in parallel with each other. At a time of finish of sewing, before a sewing machine motor is stopped, a needlebar 7 jumps, a movable blade 308 reciprocates, a hook 10 catches a bobbin thread and a needle thread 76 during a return motion of the movable blade 308, and a cutting blade 312 and a stationary blade 304 cooperate to cut the needle thread 76 and the bobbin thread. In the while, the sewing machine motor is being rotated while the needlebar 70 stays at its upper dead point. Only a cloth pressing leg and a balance 130 elevates and rotates. Accordingly, when the cloth pressing leg is moved to its advancing end position, a large space is produced between the sewing needle 72 and the cloth pressing leg and the thread sweeping member sweeps the thread end 252 within the space.
