PURPOSE: To reduce the abrasion powder of a medium to be recorded by providing a driving transmission means feeding a sheet while pressing the same to a guide member and selectively transmitting driving to a feed means and providing a cover covering the driving transmission means.

CONSTITUTION: Only the uppermost sheet of the sheets 8 received in a paper feed cassette 20 is separated and fed by the rotation of a paper feed roller 50. The separated sheet 8 is fed along the guide 20a of the paper feed cassette 20. In the feed of the sheet, a latch pawl 53 is revolved centering around a shaft 55 in a direction (a) by the solenoid 54 of a clutch 52 having a planetary gear train built therein to engage and disengage a pawl part 53a with respect to the teeth of the outer periphery of the sun gear 52a and the sun gear 52a is stopped and rotated. By this constitution, the driving transmission to the feed roller 56 arranged on the shaft of the clutch 52 is controlled. The penetration of the paper powder of the sheet 8 is prevented by a clutch cover 64. Therefore, the abrasion powder of a medium to be recorded generated in large quantities can be avoided.
