To improve the alignment of sheets by bringing sheets into contact with a stopper means in the state of the sheets in which looseness is not almost produced.
This sheet handling device 1 comprises a handling tray 40 on which the sheets fed thereto are loaded, a return belt 60 moving the sheets loaded on the handling tray, a rear end stopper 62 supporting the end part of the sheets moved by the return belt, and a carrying assist roller 50 applying a load to the sheets for movement by coming into contact with the sheets on the upstream side of the return belt in the moving direction of the sheets. The return belt moves the sheets to which the load is applied by the carrying assist roller to the rear end stopper until the sheets come into contact with the rear end stopper.
