When a punching operation is selected, a sheet end part detecting sensor 93 is moved to a specific position (a sheet end part detection waiting position) fitting to the size of the sheet (S5). When the front end of the sheet is detected by a sheet detecting sensor 31, a punch slide drive start waiting time is calculated from the sheet conveying length (S7). When the time reaches to the punch slide drive start waiting time, a punch slide motor is driven, and the sheet end part detecting sensor 93 starts to move to a holing part 90 and the sheet width direction of the sheet end part detecting sensor 93, in order to detect the end part of the sheet (S10). When the sheet end part is detected by the sheet end part detecting sensor 93, the punch slide motor is stopped, and the movement of the holing part 90 and the sheet end part detecting sensor 93 is stopped (S30).
