Abstract:
PURPOSE: To improve a sheet transfer system of an offset press in order to prevent marking of lines, spoiled printing surface, and smudgy printing due to rubbing on a printed surface by utilization of vacuum during transfer of a whole sheet or any sheet to or from a printing cylinder.
CONSTITUTION: The vacuum sheet transfer system 10 has a series of rods 46 to support unprinted surface of a freshly printed sheet along a sheet transfer passage. The rods are laid across the sheet transfer passage at the inlets of air flow of the manifold housing 16. The rods constitute a smooth surface which supports the sheet engaging with the unprinted surface of the sheet, while they are pulling the sheet along the transfer passage, and they restrict air inflow passing the slits 52. When air is drawn through the inlet slits, the unprinted surface of the sheet is attracted and engaged with the rods, while the sheet moves along the sheet transfer passage.
