Abstract:
PURPOSE: To make automatic packaging available for wire coils in different outside diameters by a method wherein sheet-forming members provided to sheet-mounting trucks arranged on both sides in the axial direction of a rotatably supported wire coil for forming a sheet into a cylindrical shape are so constructed that they can expand and contract in the direction of the radius of the coil.
CONSTITUTION: Sheet-mounting trucks 9, capable of moving forward and backward, are arranged on both sides in the axial direction of a wire coil 1 with a pair of cradle rollers, carrying the wire coil 1 and turning the same together, placed in between. A sheet S, supplied with a sheet supply device 3, is caught at its front end with a turning device 15 of the sheet-mounting trucks 9 and is turned. At the same time, margins on both sides of the sheet are formed into cylindrical shapes by operation of circular arc-shaped sheet forming members 7, then the wire coil 1 is wrapped up by pushing the margins into the inside of the coil. The sheet-forming members 7 in an apparatus constructed as mentioned above are so made up that the members can move in the direction of the radius through moving frames 23 that are turned with feed screws 22 by operation of a rotation-driving device 20, and are capable of expanding and contracting in accordance with the outside diameter of the coil.
