To provide a marine vessel propulsion system showing a high energy saving effect under the most suitable equipment configuration and adaptable for various operating states.
This marine vessel propulsion system is constructed in such a way that a main engine 1 having a supercharger is connected with a propeller 2 by a propulsion shaft 3 and a propulsion accelerating motor 10 is arranged at the propulsion shaft 3, wherein a power generator 5 for recovering surplus discharging energy and generating electricity is directly connected to a supercharger 4 for the main engine 1. At the same time the electrical power generated by the power generator 5 is supplied to the propulsion accelerating motor 10 through a frequency converter device 11a, and the electrical power generated by the power generator 5 is independent from a vessel power system, so that the electrical power generated with the power generator 5 can be instantly converted into a desired frequency for the main engine with the frequency converter and it becomes possible to reduce a device installing space, improve a degree of freedom in arranging devices, increase an amount of loading of freight or the like and reduce a maintenance cost.
