PURPOSE: To enable the reduction of the number of painting stages, by applying the paint provided with both of resistance to stone chipping and black appearance.
CONSTITUTION: An electrodeposition primer is painted in an ordinary way on a steel plate 1 of a vehicle body which is subjeted to a pretreatment, and is dried by heating to obtain an undercoating paint film 2. Paint for second coating is applied in an ordinary way on the paint film 2 in the outside plate part S of a side sill and in the outside part G except the outside plate part of the side sill and further a shock absorptive and protective paint of a black color is applied wet on wet on the second paint film (wet paint film) in the part S in an ordinary way and is dried by heating, whereby a second paint film 3 and a shock absorptive and protective paint film (b) of a black color are obtained. Top coating paint is applied in a ordinary way on the film 3 in the part G after the film (b) is masked, whereby a top paint film 4 is obtained. Not only the number of painting stages but also the kinds of paints, the amt. of the paints to be used and heat energy are reduced by the above-mentioned method.
