Abstract:
To provide a short arc type discharge lamp capable of cooling a sealed portion with high efficiency without lowering the temperature of an arc tube, and a light irradiation device having the short arc type discharge lamp.SOLUTION: A short arc type discharge lamp includes an arc tube formed so that a sealed portion is formed to be continuous with one end of a light emitting portion, a mouthpiece into which the sealed portion is inserted and fixed, and a joint layer formed between an outer peripheral surface of the sealed portion and an inner peripheral surface of the mouthpiece. In the short arc type discharge lamp in which a foil seal structure is formed in the sealed portion, an internal space is formed between an outer end surface portion of the mouthpiece and an outer end surface portion of the sealed portion. The outer end surface portion of the mouthpiece has a ventilation port for allowing cooling air to flow into and out of the internal space, and a step of 3 mm or more is formed between the outer end surface of the sealed portion and a side end surface of the internal space of the joint layer.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
