Title:
SHOTGUN PELLET WITH KNURLED SURFACE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH08226797
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

To obtain a pellet having high ballistic stability, while securing low abrasiveness of barrel inner surface and low recoil at firing by forming a plurality of protuberances and depressions on the surface thereof, the tips of which protuberances constitute, for all practical purposes, a deformable external surface of the pellet.

A pellet 10 is substantially ball-shaped, and exhibits knurls 12 made up of a plurality of protuberances 13 and depressions 14 on the entire surface 11 thereof. Tip end portions 15 of the protuberances 13 having pyramidal forms constitute the external surface of the pellet, the surface of which is deformable when they are in contact with other objects. The average height from the bottom of the depressions 14 to the tip ends of the protuberances 13 is preferably between 15 to 20%, more preferably about 5% of the pellet diameter. The heights, in an case, are larger than 15 μm. The pellet should be made of soft-iron having Vickers hardness of 80 to 120, desirably 90 to 110.
