PURPOSE: To constitute the side fence so that a patient can get on and off easily to and from a bed without a helper by providing a holding position switching mechanism on the side fence.

CONSTITUTION: The side fence is constituted so that in a plate member base part 6 being a fixed part constituting the side fence 1, a movable part 7 is held through a holding position switching mechanism 8, and also, supported by a supporting auxiliary lever 10 through a buffer member 9. The holding position switching mechanism 8 is constituted so as to be switched and held in a holding position for allowing the movable part 7 to function as a regular side fence 1, a position for holding it in a horizontal state and serving to help to get on and off, and a position for storing it in the vertical lower part. In the movable part 7, a buffer frame 23 is provided along the end part in the longitudinal direction. In such a way, a patient can get on and off to and from a bed through the side fence 1 without the help of a helper. At the time of medical treatment and medical examination, since the movable part can be rotated and stored in the vertical lower part, it does not stand in the way of the medical treatment and the medical examination.
