To provide a side machining apparatus for a hard brittle plate, coping with a difference in size and aspect ratio between workpieces without changing a table, and also to provide further chamfering the corner of the work.

This side machining apparatus for a workpiece includes: the table 8 divided into a center plate 9 supporting the central part of the workpiece and two side plates 10 supporting the side pats of the workpiece; and a grinding wheel disposed on the side part of the table, wherein the central plate 9 of the table is mounted on a bed 1 through a turning device 2, and the side plates 10 are mounted directly on the bed 1 to freely move in the direction orthogonal to the relative moving direction of the table 8 to the grinding wheel. The grinding wheel includes: a side grinding wheel for grinding the side of the work; and a corner grinding wheel for chamfering the corners of the work, wherein the corner grinding wheel is disposed before and after the side grinding wheel in the relative moving direction.
