The signal generator comprises an address generating means 102 for counting an address added value determined according to a waveform control signal 101 inputted externally to generate a gradually increasing table address 103, a waveform table means 105 for storing a waveform data table to output waveform data 106 according to the table address 103, and a sign reversal predicting means 107 for predicting the sign reversal of the waveform data 106 prior to externally outputting the waveform data 106. The waveform data 106 are made into mute by resetting the address generating means 102 using an output signal 110 of the sign reversal predicting means 107 according to a mute mode signal 109 inputted externally, and by setting the address 103 to an initial value 0.
